Photography | Cambridge Photographs 1948-1950

All the Cambridge photos were thought to have been lost or destroyed. A few years ago, several were miraculously found. They were taken with a 35 mm Argus C3, a fairly sophisticated camera for the day. In those days, there was nothing "automatic" about cameras, every parameter from lens aperture to focus had to set by hand, the setting values being at the photographer's judgment. Black and white film was used and processed by hand in a darkroom.

The photos were in poor condition but it was possible to partially restore them with computer enhancing software. In all instances, the parameters are unknown. Some appear to have been taken using infrared film, i.e., with such film some greens photograph as white, some blues are deepened. Not all have artistic merit, they are presented for nostalgic reasons.
