Andy Warhol (1928 - 1987)

Warhol is considered one of the founders of the pop art movement. The pop art movement sees itself as opposed to elitist cultural art which is just about every kind of art except pop art. Its subject matter is mundane cultural objects that emphasize the banal or kitschy aspects. The most well known are Warhol's Campbell's Soup paintings.

Painted in 1962, there are 32 16" X 20", polymer paint on canvas, works, each representing a variety of Campbell's soups.

Although his name is irrevocably associated with soup cans, he has also done other paintings, mostly using polymer paint on silkscreen. Some of Warhol's other works included several Marylyn Monroe portraits, an album cover for the Velvet Underground group and an iconic Mickey Mouse:
